José Luis Borau Moradell (Zaragoza, August 8, 1929) is a director, producer, screenwriter, actor and film critic Spanish.
Born in Zaragoza on August 8, 1929. He made his first studies at Colegio San Agustín de Zaragoza. Borau began to study law in Zaragoza in 1949. After working for a short period as a film critic for the newspaper Heraldo de Aragón, studied since 1957 in the Official film school in Madrid, career ended with the short River in 1961.
So it was considered as the great hope of the “new Spanish Cinema” in the 1960s. However, while his contemporaries a psychological cinema, he, according to the Hollywood, fashion was dedicated to spaghetti western (Brandy, 1963) or the thriller double-edged crime (1965) with little commercial success.

In the year 2001 obtained with his film Leo (2000) the Goya Award for Best Director. In addition, won the special prize of the Malaga Film Festival jury and together with The community of álex de la Iglesia Frame silver award. In 2003, aged 74, received for eleven varas shirt, short stories, book the narrative to the best opera prima Award Tigre Juan. In 2007, chunta aragonesista awarded the 3rd Prize Aragoneses in Madrid. In July 2007 was elected new President of Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE) and in February 2008 was named academic of the Royal Spanish Academy, covering the vacancy of Fernando fernán Gómez in armchair B.[ 1 ] Adding speech response was by Mario Vargas Llosa.
