Michael Kenneth Mann

Michael Kenneth Mann (Chicago, Illinois, February 5, 1943) is a director, screenwriter and film producer American.

Biography

His father, Jack, was a World War II veteran Russian immigrant, and his mother, Esther, was the daughter of a family of Chicago; both operating a grocery shop. Mann was very attached to his father and his paternal grandfather, Sam Mann. Raised in Humboldt Park neighborhood, and as a teenager, was introduced in the emerging musical Chicago blues.

He studied English literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which was an active member of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity, and developed great devotion to the history, philosophy and architecture. It was at this time when he saw the film Dr. Strangelove in Stanley Kubrick, and fell in love with film. In fact considered this film as a true revelation, as recounted in the Los Angeles Weekly newspaper.

He later studied cinematography at the London’s International Film School, to start his television career in the 1970s as a screenwriter in Starsky and Hutch, Police Story or Bronk, series and directed episodes of the same genus teleseryes as police woman, Angie Dickinson, or Las Vegas.
