A film treatment thoroughly plots and plans a movie, feature film, or TV series. Sometimes the treatment is adapted from a book. Other times it is not. In either case, the film treatment contains a logline (one-sentence summary), description of the main characters, and a detailed summary.  Although each type of film treatment contains the same elements, the summary for a TV treatment is of each episode in the entire season. Here are some of our TV treatment examples. Some of them are also book to TV show adaptations.

TV shows are also structured differently than movies. Our movie and feature film plot summaries are organized in the industry-standard three-act structure, containing 8 sequences. Here are some of our movie and feature film treatment examples. The examples also include book to screen examples.

In addition to being instrumental to planning, the film treatment is  also a key marketing tool. After the query letter (essentially the equivalent of a cover letter for the film industry), it is the first document film studios and potential investors will read about your story. Busy executives need to see that you have a well structured story with interesting characters. If not, they won’t even bother reading your screenplay!

Our film treatment service is an essential prerequisite to writing your script. By thoroughly plotting and planning your movie, feature film, or TV series and developing your characters, the quality of your script will be vastly improved. Screenplays have a precise structure and although there is much room for creativity, it’s paramount to follow this structure. Failure to do so is the number one reason a screenplay does not sell.

Although it is important to plan all types of screenplays, for shorter works such as skits and short films, we will do the planning at no additional cost. Just let us know your concept and any additional details and plot points you might have. From there, we can work together to develop your script.

The vast majority of screenwriters fail to plan their story and thoroughly develop their characters. Of those those who do make an honest attempt at planning their story, the majority of that subset are inexperienced in screenplay structure. In contrast, our screenwriters have actually written books about screenplay structure and character development. A precisely structured screenplay with well-developed characters and conflict will place your story in the upper percentile!
