Clifford Odets (18 July 1906, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – 14 August 1963, Hollywood, California) was a playwright American.
He acted with some codes from 1923 to 1928, companies joining the Group Theatre in 1931. His first staging was the drama of social protest Waiting for Lefty in 1935, followed by Awake and Sing! in 1935 and Golden Boy in 1937.
At the end of the 1930s, he moved to Hollywood where he wrote screenplays and directed films None but the Lonely Heart in 1944 and The Story on Page One in 1959. Among his later works are The Big Knife in 1949, The Country Girl from 1950 and 1954 The Flowering Peach.
