Nicolás Ciganda (Montevideo, June 16, 1977) is a film director and screenwriter Uruguayan.

Biography and works

Nicolás Ciganda was born on 16 June 1977 in Montevideo, where he studied Social communication at the Catholic University of Uruguay.

In 1996 he made his first short film, adventures in Shanghai, where he won the fifth edition of the lightning Video contest organized by the Cinemateca Uruguaya. His second short, one day, was released in 2001. In 2003 he released Quaraí 1080, best documentary at the first international school of Film Festival, organized by the Cinemateca Uruguaya.

With the goal of Morena participated in competition short films Shoot Goals! Shoot Movies!, organized by a section of the Berlin International Film Festival to promote young filmmakers from around the world, and was selected along with other 42 works. It won for his short film in Berlin in 2005, their distribution in the Goethe-institut and its projection in the official programme of art and culture of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

He was also director of photography of the Uruguayan short journey (2005).

It is producing the documentary “in the end” on the premiere Mojigata La murga in 2011.

In February 2010 he took his first music video, farewell to the Argentine musician Juan ravioli, winner of the 2009 Clarín revelation in music award. This clip is in rotation on MTV and MuchMusic channels since May of 2010. In June 2010 filmed its second clip for Juan Ravioli: “Perdido (dog house)”.

The realm of fiction, is his first feature-length fiction project: “Chau!”.
