David José Kohon (Buenos Aires, October 18, 1929 – ibid., 30 October 2004) was Argentine film screenwriter and director. He wrote and directed films such as brief heaven (1969), prisoners from one night (1960), and three times Ana (1961). His last directorial work was in the hole in the wall in 1981.

Its beginnings

From a young age he felt drawn to literature, theatre and cinema, elements that would make him a constant diver in characterology of characters and situations, mainly those referring to the Buenos Aires life. In 1950 was Assistant Director of Enio Echenique Patrol north film and the same year directed short the arrow and the compass. In 1952 was second Assistant in the movie crossroads Leopoldo Torres rivers. In 1955 he wrote the play bad business in 1956, Roberto and dancing, and in 1964 he published his first novel, the black circle of the street and, subsequently, several stories in the comments and fiction magazines.

At the same time Kohon published notes of film criticism in magazines World Argentino, World Radio and Film people and democracy journal, and became known environment of the screenings by the short film “buenos aires” social Court directed in 1958.

A key moment

In the second half of the 1950s began to emerge a new wave in the Argentine cinematography result of various factors, including the dissemination of new European cinema (Antonioni, nouvelle vague French) and the depletion of local industry models. New filmmakers that criticism brought together then as the 60’s generation ‘ was added also Kohon with titles such as thrice Ana (1961), prisoners of night (1961), and short sky (1968), that not only he sought to reflect the social concerns of the time but that pursuing an aesthetic change.

In 1981 he made his latest film, the hole in the wall, where a Buenos Aires re-enactment of the myth of Faust, serves as pretext to refer to the State of decomposition of the Argentine society of the time. Censorship, trouble shooting, difficulties in brand new, led him to emigrate to Israel, go back to journalism and abandoning the filmmaking.

After a long illness he died in Buenos Aires, 30 October 2004.
