Frank Romer Pierson (Chappaqua, New York, May 12, 1925) is a screenwriter and film director won the Oscar for best original screenplay, film dog day afternoon.
Biography
Pierson, was born in Chappaqua, New York, the son of Louise (née Randall), writer, and Harold C. Pierson, a businessman. Pierson studied at Harvard. Achieved success in Hollywood when he wrote a script for the television series Naked City in 1958. Came to write or co-write several notable films and has also directed several films made for television.
He collaborated in the indents of the legend of the untamed and dog day afternoon, were nominated for the Academy Awards, with the latter of which won Pierson statuette of the Oscar for best original screenplay. Pelçícula a star is born, he directed and also contributed to the script, was nominated for several awards Oscar. Also notable films include Truman and Soldier’s Girl and won the Peabody Awards.
It was President of the Union of writers of America, between 1981-1983 and again from 1993-1995 and President of the Academy and the motion picture science 2001-2005. It is also currently a member of the teaching staff of the Sundance Institute, and is artistic director of the American Film Institute.
