Charles Edward Chauvel (Warwick (Queensland), October 7, 1897 – Sydney, New South Wales, 11 November 1959) was a film director, film producer, screenwriter and actor Australian. Chauvel was nephew of Sir Henry George chauvel, Commander of the Australian Army during World War I. Chauvel shot his first films, moth of moonbi and green hide, in Harrisville (Queensland), by engaging local citizens as extras and using a family-owned land in the outskirts of the city.

Since 1992, the International Film Festival in Brisbane awarded the chauvel award (Prize Chauvel) annually to “a contributor distinguished Australian cinema.”
