Christy Cabanne (16 April 1888 – 15 October 1950) was an American actor, director and American screenwriter. It was, alongside Sam Newfield and William Beaudine, one of the most prolific directors in the history of American cinema.

Biography.

His full name was William Christy Cabanne and was born in St. Louis, Missouri. Cabanne graduated United States the Naval Academy in Annapolis, spending several years in the Navy and graduated in 1908.

Decided to pursue a career in theatre, making director and actor. Although the performance was their main occupation, when it came to the film industry was primarily as director, after appearing in more than 40 shorts between 1911 and 1914. Signed contract with Fine Arts Co., and later worked as Assistant to D.W. Griffith. Miriam Cooper stated that it was he who discovered her and gave her work as an extra in 1912.

Dedicated also to scripts, was hired by Metro Pictures for writing a serial. He then formed his own production company, which had closed a few years later. He later worked as director, mainly in low to medium-cost studies and Associated Exhibitors, Tiffany, FBO, Pathe, productions but did work with MGM in a few between mid- to late twenties, as it was the case in The Midshipman (1925).

Mid-1930s career rallied, and rolled several titles for Universal Studios. However, the late again found directing productions of very low budget, including westerns and adventure for studies as a Monogram Pictures, PRC and Screen Guild and horror stories.

He married Millicent Fisher, had a son. Christy Cabanne died in 1950 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, because of an acute myocardial infarction myocardial. He was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.
