Claude Berri (1934, Paris, France – 12 January 2009, Paris, France July 1) was a director and French film producer.
Biography
From a French Jewish family, his father was fur and his mother worked in a factory. From birth living in Paris. Although it began working with his father, simultaneously he attended Theatre classes. Died 12 January 2009 of a vascular stroke.
Career
Although he wrote scripts and began as an actor, Berri noted for the direction and production.
As director took the reins of films such as ‘ Germinal (1993), with Gérard depardieu and miou-miou; Jean de Florette (1986) and Manon revenge (1986), with emmanuelle béart.
He was the producer of directors such as Jean-Jacques Annaud and Costa-gavras header. His last film produced was Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis (Welcome to the North), broke the record at the box office at France at the time. He also produced other hits as Tess (1979) by roman polanski, La Reine margot (1994), Patrice based or series of films on Asterix and Obelix.

Awards
He won the BAFTA for best film in 1987 directing Jean de florette. In his career was nominated for twelve César Awards even though he only won one (best film in 2008 by graine et le mulet). He also won an Oscar, here for the best short film by Le poulet Edition 1965, and was nominated as producer of Tess in 1980 Edition.
