Gustav von Wangenheim (February 18, 1895 – 5 August 1975) was an actor, screenwriter and German director.

His name was ingo clemens Gustav Adolf freiherr von Wangenheim son of Eduard Clemens Freiherr von Wangenheim (also known as Eduard von Winterstein) and Minna Mengers in Wiesbaden. Both parents were actors.

Wangenheim entered films in 1916; among his greatest works silent is classic 1922 Nosferatu, vampires where juga actor the role of Thomas hutter and he won him great fame in the cinema in Europe. That same year he became a member of the Germany Communist Party and later formed his own theatre company called Die Gruppe .

In 1933 to persecution suffered Communist militants by Nazism, he should leave Germany Nazi and fled to the Soviet Union. In Soviet exile he continued writing and producing movies. Aftermath of the war he returned to East Germany where joined the DEFA as screenwriter and director.

Married inge von wangenheim, formerly Franke (July 1, 1912 – 6 April 1993). He died on August 5, 1975 in East Berlin.
