Harold Albert Lamb (Alpine, New Jersey, 1892 – Rochester, New York, April 9, 1962) was a historian, novelist and screenwriter of American cinema. Raised in the State of New Jersey and attended Columbia University, where he became interested in the history of Asia. His work became known on the Adventure, where he wrote from nineteen magazine. The success of his biography of Genghis Khan in 1927 became it a well-known biographer of historical characters: Timur (1928) Omar Khayyam (1934), Alexander the great (1946), Suleiman the magnificent (1951), Charlemagne (1954), Hannibal (1958) and Cyrus the great (1960).

He spoke French, Latin, Persian, and Arabic. His investigations led him to travel Asia and include precise descriptions of the geography and customs of Tatarstan and the Iran. His book Omar Khayyam was dedicated to the Persians who shared their homes with him.[ 1 ] His book Cyrus the great was the result of a casual research of the author during his service in World War II.

He worked as a screenwriter in Hollywood since 1935, when he wrote the Crusades, Cecil B. DeMille, who would collaborate in four films.
