Humberto Solás Borrego (December 4, 1941, Havana, Cuba – 18 September 2008, Havana, Cuba) was a film director, producer and screenwriter Cuban.[ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] Remembered for his film Lucia (1968), considered one of the 10 most important films in America Latína.

Biography

Degree in history from the University of Havana, soon to go into the film. In 1960 he began in the Cuban Institute of art and film industry, first as Assistant Director and then as a producer.

Its international projection reached it with A man of success (1986), first Cuban film to be nominated for an Academy Award for best non-English speaking film. He received the National award of Cuban cinema in 2005. In 2003 he created the International Festival of film poor alternative show in Gibara.[ 4 ]

Upon the death, the Cuban Film Institute emphasized his figure saying:
