Lucas Demare (Buenos Aires, July 14, 1910 – ibid., 6 September 1981) was a director, screenwriter and film producer argentino. He wrote and directed films such as La Guerra Gaucha, El cura gaucho (1941), scream Street (1948), Mi noche triste (1951), Zafra (1958) and the wedding (1964). His latest work as director was in sea men in 1977. As a producer he participated in important films like the dead missing appointment (1944) of Pierre Laurentian, where dying words (1946) of Hugo fregonese, playful Cinderella (1951) of the pig war (1975) and Francisco Mugica by Leopoldo Torre nilsson.
Biography
Its beginnings
He was the son of Otilia Riccio and Sunday Demare, this latter profession violinist. First he studied piano and 15 travelled with the family to Paris where his older brother Lucius worked as a pianist. Became bored and in 1927 he returned to Buenos Aires [ 1 ] and bandoneon studied six months with Pedro maffia. In 1928 he went to Spain and joined as a bandoneonist Orquesta Típica Argentina, featured her older brother Lucius as pianist and director. In 1933 he worked as performer and singer Agustin Irusta, Roberto Fugazot and Lucio Demare Spanish movies bowling and birds without direction.
Excited about the film, Demare resigned from the Orchestra, where he earned a thousand dollars per month, and began working in studios as unpaid. He was learning the craft and rose quickly: pizarrero, third Assistant, Assistant of direction, and one day they hired him to make it’s debut as a director, but the civil war prevented from doing so and must have been out of Spain.
Emilio Zolezzi, which apart from film critic was lawyer Artists Argentinos partners since its inception has about the director:
“Civil war – and his prolegomena – put end to the work of Demare Spanish film.” But he learned his trade in it. Demare boasts having played all cinema, duties undertaken studies of Orphea Films from Barcelona. From sweeping the study and handling the Whiteboard as I progress, to the address the scale was walked step by step… He is an autodidact. Involving start their way into the film having a wall to itself: it ignored. And he was beating long and hard stage. “Readings and technical learnings”stolen”on the set without further guide than its desire.”
He travelled to Italy with the Marbel brothers, a duo made a number of memory retention and a girl who sang, whom he accompanied. Then went to Lisbon where he joined the Orchestra of Carlos Vicente Geroni Flores.[ 4 ] He returned to Argentina and his brother Lucius got him a job as responsible for floor Studios River Plate who in 1937 it was hired as director and scriptwriter for feature films two friends and love and in twenty-four hours of freedom, both played by actor Pepe Iglesias. In 1939 he became Pampa Films, a company with higher budgets for the son of the neighborhood (1940), Turkish heart (1940) and Chingolo (1941), all of them with its own script.[ 5 ] This latest film, which had good reception from critics and public, consolidated the outstanding technical team that would accompany him in the post-conflict phase.[ 6 ] The cura gaucho was the film, which began its relationship with Henry Muiño, but despite its commercial success was fired by Pampa Films.
Stage artists Argentine partners
At the beginning of the 1940s met regularly with a group of artists was vacant: Enrique Muiño, Isaiah Alippi, Francisco petrone and Angel Magaña in El Ateneo coffee located in Carlos Pellegrini and Cangallo (now Lieutenant General Juan D. Perón) city of Buenos Aires. La guerra gaucha
He then directed La guerra gaucha, with libretto by murat ulyses petit and Homero Manzi on the book of the same name (1905) by Leopoldo lugones. Premiered on November 20, 1942. He has been viewed “the more successful of the Argentine cinema film, and also one of the best”.
The epic tone film takes place in 1817 in Salta province, Argentina (North-West Argentina). Its historical context is given by the actions of guerrilla gauchos supporters of independence, under the command of general Martín Güemes against the regular army realistic that respond to the Spanish monarchy.
For foreign filming was built a village in the area where the events that inspired the film developed. For the scenes set was with the help of a few thousand participants number that had no precedent in the Argentine cinema.
Lucas Demare has several small appearances in the film. In one scene had to shoot the fire of the people (according to the argument, the Royalist forces entered and this barrage because you had noticed that the traitor was the sacristan). Filming should be made in one shot since, of course, the village could burn only once, so arranged that both operators as himself and the rest of the team dress gauchos or realistic, so if you entered the focus of a camera, it seems that it was part of the action. In the midst of the fire, a blow of wind brought fire to Demare leaving you totally chamuscadas false hair and beard. Later Demare acted as a Spanish soldier, attacked by the gauchos, receives a spear in the chest. Magaña has:
the Lance is it pulled I from the top of the camera; gave him full in the chest. I did a large bruise, then there was to put a dressing. I had a tremendous hematoma of so many shots, and he ordered: “once again!” Once again!. “I thought it was going to kill…”
La guerra gaucha was very well received by critics, he received numerous awards and meant an economic success. He came down from poster just nineteen weeks exhibition during which saw her 170,000 spectators and then had four consecutive weeks of exhibition in Montevideo. Care very much for spending production of the film had cost $. 269.000-which had completely in the nineteen weeks exhibition premiere rooms.

Best student
Manzi and Petit again addressed the historical genre with the figure of Sarmiento and began looking for topics related to it. This began by diving into produced by the most prolific Argentine writer (58 volumes are complete works). So they found the figure of his son, Fidel Domingo Sarmiento, known as Dominguito, fell in love with her and made the script for the new film directed Lucas Demare and was named best student.
The film cost La Guerra Gaucha twice. The scenery was much more broad and complex and the masses of Curapayty attack scene took twenty days of filming, required the construction of bridges, forts, etc.
Best student was released 22 May 1944 in a function for the benefit of victims earthquake of San Juan which also was attended by senior officials of the Government headed by the President of the country. He had an excellent reception from the press and won the main prizes. To the public, suffice it to say that he remained twenty weeks in Premiere room and wearing raised 1.5 million pesos per year.
Barbaric Pampa
In 1945 Demare co-directed with Hugo fregonese a film set in 1833 on the stage of the struggle on the border between Indians and whites but focused on the lives of those who lived in the forts and in particular of women, both captive India as the “fortineras” sent by the central Government to avoid defections.
Manzi and Petit Murat commissioned the script performing the prior review of available documentary items as they had done with the gaucha war and his best student. The interpretation was in charge of Luisa vehil, Francisco Petrone and Enrique Muiño. It received excellent feedback from criticism that weighted agile rhythm of the film and the integration to the dramatic plot of the landscape that seems to wrap and dominate the characters. Photography carried out by Bob Roberts and Humberto Peruzzi was also praised.
The film was a version of Hollywood entitled savage Pampas in 1966, directed by Fregonese, starring actors from rosenda Monteros and Robert Taylor.
I’ll never tell you goodbye
About Manzi and Murat Petit script, the 1947 film is loving disagreement between a man and a married woman. A romantic melodrama with dialogues was cursis and slow development. Performed it zully Moreno, Angel Magaña and Orestes caviglia.
As you dreamed
Here Demare filmed in 1947 a dash of Homero Manzi on the novel George Kaiser October day. He is a girl who imagines that his son, his relationship with a butcher, fruit is a musician that is in love. With good interpreters was considered excellent and meticulous realization of Demare.
The street screaming
A young couple played by Angel Magaña and Patricia Castell is facing the employer of a prestigious Economist played by Henry Muiño regarding salaries corroded by inflation, a problem that was beginning to worry about the Argentines. The 1948 film shows in tone of comedy the contrast between economic theory and reality, between the bulls that isolates and the street screaming.
Lucas Demare died of an heart attack in 1981 at age 71.
