Robert Scott hicks, born on 4 March 1953 in Uganda, is an Australian, nominated by the Academy of Arts and the motion picture Sciences sometimes film director.

Scott Hicks graduated with honors in the Flinders University of South Australia in 1975 and was awarded Doctor Honoris Causa degree in 1997. Hicks, who was born and raised in Africa, now lives in Adelaide, Australia with his wife, producer kerry heysen, and their two dijos, Scott and Jethro.

Biography and career

Scott Hicks, English father and a Scottish mother spent her childhood in Kenya in Nairobi. With ten years he settled with his family in England and the fourteen moved Adelaida, Australia, where he currently resides. It is there, Australia, and more specifically in the flinders university of south Australia where passionate about cinema and German Expressionism.

Since then, Scott Hicks worked as Director and Assistant in films like the Club (1980), Bruce beresford. In parallel, directs documentaries and a first feature film in 1975, entitled Down the wind. In the 1980s made other two feature films with small budget: Freedom (1980) and Call me Mr. Brown (1986). In 1988 follows them Sebastian and the sparrow, is the producer, and screenwriter. It has the story of two boys, one was born in a poor environment and another in a well-off atmosphere, who decide to change their lives each other.

Since 1986, Hicks is interested in the life of the pianist David helfgott and start preparing a feature film entitled Shine, premièred in 1996 with a great success for many years. It was the revelation of the Sundance Independent Film Festival and won seven Oscar nominations including best picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor (won by Geoffrey rush); five nominations for Golden Globe Awards, an directors guild of america nomination, a nomination in the national board of review as nine awards from the Australian Film Institute include best picture and best Director and best film. Also won a best film Awards BAFTA nomination.

It is in September 1995, during post-production Shine, when Hicks read David guterson snow falling on Cedars, best-selling work who decides to adapt for the big screen. He is the concentration of Japanese citizens in American camps during the Second World War. Snow falling on Cedars earned Robert richardson nominated for 2000 by best picture Oscar.

In 2001, Scott Hicks adapts to film another novel, one of stephen King: Hearts in Atlantis, 1999. Anthony hopkins he works on it.

Of work in Hearts in Atlantis in 2001, Hicks decided to take a break and enjoy family life. However, in that period he began working in advertising on television, which, surprisingly, he was very satisfactory.

More than six years later, in 2007, Hicks became like film director without reservation, a remake of the German Dear Martha is starring Catherine Zeta-Jones. He then continued with GLASS, a portrait of Philip in twelve parts, which returned to the documentary genre. His new project is a co-production of angloaustraliana, The boys are back in town, involving clive owen.
