Philippe Claudel (Nancy, 1962) French writer.

He has been teaching and screenwriter for film and television. During his master he taught in high schools and University of Nancy II, where he was Professor of Cultural Anthropology and literature. In his free time also he taught disabled children and prisoners.

Gran admirador de Simenon y del Jean Giono de la posguerra, publicó su primer libro, Meuse l’oubli, cuando tenía treinta y siete años. Sus novelas y libros de relatos han sido galardonados en varias ocasiones: la novela J’abandonne recibió el premio Francia Televisión 2000, el libro de relatos Petites mécaniques obtuvo el premio Goncourt de Novela 2003; Grey souls, his fifth novel, It was awarded the prestigious Prize Renaudot, also in 2003, and Brodeck report was Goncourt Prize 2007 students.

In 2008 was director and scriptwriter of the film Il and longtemps that je t’aime (long ago that I love you) among other awards, which won the César award for best first film.
